Obituary of Margaret Hodgins

Margaret Jane Kilgour Hodgins, 68, passed away January 5, 2014, with her family by her side, after a courageous battle against ALS. Born November 6, 1946, the middle of three children to Walter and Ina Kilgour, she knew right away that her roots were deep and that Shawville was home. While she ventured to MacDonald College to get her teachers degree, she soon returned home to marry her true love of 45 years, Gary Hodgins. While Margaret had many interests and enjoyments in life family always came first. While deeply committed to all of her family, her focus shifted when her children Allan (Tamara Baird) and Jennifer (Bob Orr), were born. Then when she took on the role of Grandma to Kaleb, William, Joshua, and James life became even more fantastic. What fun it was to have Grandchildren that you could both play with and send home when the day was done. After teaching Kindergarten at Dr. SE McDowell School in Shawville for 35 years she ventured onto her biggest challenge in life – retirement. Retirement for Margaret just allowed her more time to delve deeper into those things she loved in life. She was a life time member of the Clarendon Women’s Institute, having held many different positions in office, both at a local and county level. As an active member of the Shawville United Church, she spent many years in the UCW, as the Church Organist, and in her beloved Sunday School. Never being one to sit still she loved being active, be it curling, pilates or yoga. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of truly getting to know her, especially her sister Mary (Andre Arcand) and brother John (Linda Thompson). Her nephew Ian, and extra special brother in law Barry Hodgins.
