Obituary of Gerald Perry

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Gerald Perry on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at the age of 78 after a month-long battle with illness. Gerald, better known as Gerry or Joe, is survived by Edythe Newberry Perry, his wife of 57 years, his three children; Jaimie (Paula Kane), Deanna, and Tracy, his grandchildren; Aaron (Michelle), Adam, Alexi, Anya, Sydney (Nic) and Jordan, his great-grandson Colton, his brother Philip (Ita Fitzgerald) and sister Diane (Yvon Amyotte) as well as many nieces and nephews and all his many cherished friends. He was predeceased by his parents Stephen and Therese.

Gerry was born in Rouyn-Noranda on April 3, 1945 to Stephen and Thérèse (née Éthier) Perry, but spent the vast part of his life in Waltham, Quebec on his beloved mountain. After retiring from a 35 year career in teaching (most of which was spent at Bishop Smith School in Pembroke, Ontario) in which he had the opportunity to impact the lives of many students, he always found ways to stay busy on Perry’s Mountain, whether he was in the sugar bush in the spring, out cutting wood or going for walks through the years with his much-loved pets. He loved nothing better than to head out in the boat, always hoping to catch “the big one”, and according to his hunting crew, he could always be counted on to lighten the atmosphere in the hunt camp. In fact, no matter where he went or what situation he was faced with, you could always count on him to crack a joke or make some kind of comment. That was Gerry! He will always be remembered as the most kind, gentle, caring, and loyal person.  His deep, abiding love for his family, and most especially for his beloved wife, whom he always managed to embarrass with his teasing, was truly a testament to who he was and how much, and how deeply, he loved.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 5, 2024 in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Waltham, Quebec at 11 a.m. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery in the spring of 2024.

In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a donation in Gerry's memory, the family would like you to consider donating to Perry Medico (formerly Friends for Life) at https://perrymedico.ca or to the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery Fund, Waltham, Quebec.

Many thanks and God bless.
