Obituary of Lorraine Sullivan Hearty

Lorraine’s earthly journey ended peacefully in hospital on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at the age of 83, with her family by her side.  Her “kick at the can” presented many joys to treasure along with several challenges to conquer, which she confronted with perseverance and courage.

Lorraine had three “F words” that loomed prominently in her day-to-day focus, FAITH, FAMILY AND FRIENDS.  She nurtured her relationship with God daily, and her trust in his promise of eternal salvation sustained her spiritual growth through the years.  Her best friend and rock was her husband, Merrill Hearty, whom she married on July 11, 1964.  This union blessed them with a daughter, Laurel Kluke (James) and a son, Timothy John, three granddaughters, Lauren (Steve Morin), Kristen (Jake Morin) and Meghan (Chris Morin) and one grandson, Brodie Hearty Farrell, and one great grandson, Darcy Thomas Morin.  She cherished these gifts in her life and was extremely proud of all of them.  Lorraine was forever thankful for having been born to loving parents, late Carmel O’Hare and Eric Sullivan. She was a middle child in a family of 10;  late Richard (late Stella Mousseau), late Doris Hobbs (late Gerald), late Linus, Betty Ward (James), late infant Joseph, Kathleen Ranger (Joseph), Margaret (late Evans Pappin), Gilles Cloutier, Grace McGuire (late Joseph), late baby Anne.  She was always grateful for the companionship, love and support of her siblings and their partners.  She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews.  Lorraine treated her friends with respect and cherished them in her heart.

She began her teaching career in 1958 in Montreal at the young age of 18, and upon retirement in June 2000, ended it in her hometown of Campbell’s Bay.  She especially appreciated being given the opportunity to serve as caregiver for her niece, Robyn Sullivan, in her last years before retirement.  During her career Lorraine touched many lives and formed many enduring relationships.

She volunteered her services both in the community at large and in her church community, where she was a long-time member of the Catholic Women’s League.  She treasured the many travels she shared with Merrill and had a deep love for Canada.  Her mantra was “Explore Canada First”.

Our sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Ruth Vander Stelt for her constant care and compassion, and to all the nurses at the Pontiac Community Hospital who cared for Lorraine, especially in her last days in palliative care.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 2, 2023 in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Vinton, Quebec at 11 a.m. followed by her interment in the parish cemetery.  A reception will follow afterwards at the Campbell’s Bay RA Hall.
