Obituary of Lionel "Tube" Gravelle

Lionel was born August 5, 1943 to the late Eddie Gravelle and Anna Nadon.  He was the youngest of 13 and the only child to be born in the Shawville Hospital.  Predeceased by his beloved wife Darlene Brown (1945-2002), brothers; Romeo, Ferron, Efram, Fred, Daniel, Gerald, Russell and sisters; Florence, Lucy, Annette and Christine.  He is survived by his brother Gordon of Ottawa and his daughter Natalie.

They grew up in Campbell’s Bay.  Lionel had many careers over his life.  He worked in the bush with his father, drove a dump truck, painted houses for many years and retired working for Stone Container in 2002.  Known to many as “Tube”, a name that stuck for over 50 years, as he was working for Jean-Guy Larivière furniture store, he was walking across the street with a television tube, someone yelled “Tube” and that’s where it all began.

Lionel met Darlene in elementary school, he lived at the bottom of Stutts Hill, and she lived on the farm on top of the hill.  They married May 6, 1977 and welcomed their beautiful daughter Natalie in June of 1978.  Lionel was a firefighter for the Campbell’s Bay Litchfield Fire Department for 50 years, for which he received the Governor General Award of Canada.  Lionel saved many lives in his years as a firefighter and many accident victims.  He was always calm in the eye of the storm.

Lionel will be terribly missed by many nieces and nephews, friends and colleagues but most of all by his only daughter Natalie.  When Darlene died, he became both parents to her and she couldn’t have asked for a better father.  He is now home, surrounded by loved ones whom he has missed for many years.

Rest in Peace!
