Obituary of Arlene Anna Saunders (nee Smith)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Arlene on Saturday, April 9, 2022 in hospital, Shawville, Quebec at the age of 82.  Beloved wife for 62 wonderful years of Ivan.  Loving mother to Karen, Glenna (Nick Lombardo) and Scott (Lise Simard).  Grandmother of Talia (Sébastien) and great grandmother of Malakai.  Predeceased by her parents Leonard Smith and Anna Briscoe, her sister Beth (late Davis Hodgins) and her brother Darwin.  She leaves to mourn her brother Versil (late Jean) and her sister-in-law Mary Draper.  She will also be missed by all family and many friends.

Arlene was a passionate leader and devoted much of her time to clubs that were true to her heart.  Charter member of the Bryson Lionettes and treasurer, Lionettes liaison for Lions district A-4 cabinet, treasurer of the Bryson United Church Cemetery, she was awarded the Helen Keller and the Melvin Jones awards.  She still made time to snowmobile, enjoy cake decorating, watch curling, figure skating and travelled to hockey rinks all over to watch Ivan play.  Arlene cared greatly about her family and always went to great lengths to organize family functions.

Friends may call on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 in Hayes Funeral Home, 134 Centre Street, Shawville, Quebec from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.  A Chapel Service will take place on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at 11 a.m.  Interment Norway Bay United Cemetery.  A reception will be held in Bryson Lions Hall following the interment.  Donations to the Norway Bay United Cemetery Fund would be appreciated.
