Obituary of John Andrew Atkinson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of John Andrew Atkinson at the age of 69. He leaves to mourn his wife and best friend of nearly 46 years, Linda (nee Hines) and his pride and joy, Kristen Ann. He is survived by his loving sister and brother, Ruth and Les (Monique Robillard). He is pre-deceased by his parents Helen Poole and Cyrus Atkinson, his brothers-in-law Les (Gayle Barr) Hines and Donnie Hines. John was loved by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Gloria (Bob) Blackmore, Glenda (late Carey) Myers, Audrey (late Terry) MacLeod, Garry (late Linda Trudeau) Hines, Rick (Sharon Christian) Hines, Lindsay (Kim Hodgins) Hines and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. His heart held a special place for his Godchildren; Michael Hitz, Jayme (Hines) Findlay, Adam Hines, Blake Hines, Jennifer Hines and Rebecca Hines - he had a big heart. Johnny K was the proud owner of Atkinson’s Sports Bar for 23 years and contributed to any sports team or event in town that needed or wanted his help. Because of his community support and generosity he was the the first non Lions club member to ever receive the Hellen Keller Fellowship Award in 2004. To say he had a big heart is an understatement. He will always be remembered for his larger than life personality, while his jokes and tall tales will be missed by many, “did I tell you the one about .....” All arrangements have been entrusted to Hayes Funeral Home and a celebration of life will be held at a later date, when we can all celebrate him the way we should! In John’s memory donations to the Shawville/Clarendon Fire Department or the Shawville R/A would be greatly appreciated. Take care of him Randy and Charlie!
