Obituary of Otto Meier

On Father’s Day, June 21, 2020, in Shawville, Quebec, Otto Meier, at the age of 91, went home peacefully to be with his Heavenly Father.

He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of almost 62 years, Elsie (Lathem). He was a wonderful Dad to Steve (Judy), Cathy and David (Ute).  He was a proud Pappy to Brent (Amanda), Andrew (Krista), Katelyne (Chris), Daniel, Victoria and Jeremy.  A dear great-grandfather to Ryan and Owen and godfather to Marianne.  Otto was predeceased by his four brothers; Leo (Luigina), Ulrich (Elfriede), Hans (Margrit), John (Anna) and his one sister Miggi (Erwin).

Born in Kueblis, Switzerland, Otto was asked by his father to come to Canada to be with his brother John.  In Canada, he built a full life and a wonderful family.  He did not run from hard work or sacrifice.  Instead, he anchored his family with the Christ-like love that he joyfully professed.

Otto’s passion was founded from a strong trade’s background where he built a career in the Sudbury nickle mines, Hilton Mines in Bristol and the Consolidated Bathurst pulp mill.  He was known for his humor, warmth, and wisdom.  Otto was innovative, creative, and always able to strike up a conversation with anyone he met.  The campgrounds of Ottawa Valley Pentecostal Camp (OVPC) brought his family together where they built memories and relationships that will never be forgotten.

Otto spent the last 31 years enjoying his retirement, where he took great joy in his independence, long drives, and the camaraderie built in local restaurants and family get togethers.

Otto leaves a lifetime of wisdom and inspiration to all that he knew.

“Otto, Dad, Pappy, you will be greatly missed, but we all have peace and joy knowing that we will be reunited one day.  We love you.”

Special thanks to Mark Aufranc from Family Prix Pharmacy and medical staff at the Pontiac Community Hospital and CLSC.
