Obituary of Keith Burns John Smith

Keith Burns 1948-2020 Keith Burns John Smith, 71, of Bristol, Québec, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2020, surrounded by his beloved family. Keith is survived by his wife, Danielle Côté-Smith of 45 years, daughter Marie-Catherine Smith, and sons Nikolaï and Philippe Smith, as well as six grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Keith was a loving father, husband, uncle, grandfather and friend. Keith was at his happiest while working on the farm, caring for his cows and picking daily bouquets of wildflowers for his “sweety,” Danielle. He took great joy in being a parent to his three deeply cherished children, who will continue to look up to him as an exemplary role model. Keith was known as a hard worker who simultaneously managed to run the farm while working full-time in construction as a lather in Ottawa. Despite his many commitments, he always made time for his family. He regularly accompanied his children to activities and sports tournaments, and was often seen twirling his adored wife on a local dancefloor. Neighbours will remember Keith’s big heart and his unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed. Keith cared enormously for his community and was always generous with his limited time. This shone through in his many years of engagement as a councillor for the municipality of Bristol, as well as his proud participation in countless Terry Fox runs. Never wanting to be in the spotlight, Keith’s many talents were rarely revealed to those outside of his immediate family. He was a naturally talented artist with an affinity for drawing. He was known to sing rhyming melodies made up on the spot, to the great delight of young kids and family. He was also a skilled carpenter, mason and mechanic who succeeded in completing innumerable home renovation projects and farm equipment repairs. Keith’s ambitions were simple: To raise a family with heart and humour, to work on his farm, and to help his neighbours. He can rest easy in knowing he accomplished what he set out to do. Keith will be remembered for his witty sense of humour, unparallelled work ethic and deep love for his family, friends and community. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Following a private service, a reception in celebration of Keith’s life will be held from 3:30 PM to 6pm on Saturday, January 25, 2020, at the Little Red Wagon winery at 165 Calumet Road West in Shawville. All are welcome. The family requests donations to the Terry Fox Foundation in lieu of flowers.
