Obituary of Charles Smith

It is with great sadness that the family of Charles Walter Garfield Smith (Sonny) announce his passing. At the age of 81, Sonny passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on June 24, 2017 at the Shawville Hospital.  He leaves to mourn his wife and best friend of 57 years, Jean (nee Yach).  Loving father of Randy (Darlene), Robert (Cécilé), Bonnie (Peter), Sandra (Bruce) and ex son-in-law Jim.  Cherished Grampa of Joey, Sonny, Samatha, Amy (Kyle), Ashley, Ashton (Lacie) and Bai-Leigh.  Special Grampa to Jessie Gonsvales and James Paquette. Fondly remembered by 13 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.  Sonny is survived by his brother Sherman (Gisélé), sisters Lilda (Wilfred), Ethel (late Mervin Yach) and sister-in-law Darlene Wiggins also brother-in-law Sherwin Greer.  Predeceased by his parents Charles T. Smith and Sarah Havelin as well as siblings Harvey, Dalton, Cora, Minerva and daughter-in-law Linda Gideault.  Sonny will always be remembered for his love of music, hunting, fishing and his furry bed companions, Lucky and Minnie.  The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff for their exceptional care during this difficult time. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.  As per Sonny’s request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Sonny’s life will be held at Sonny and Jean’s home, C974 Highway 303 N, Charteris, Quebec on Saturday, July 8, 2017 from 2-4 p.m.
