John Albert "Jack" Lang

Obituary of John Albert "Jack" Lang

After a courageous battle with cancer, Jack passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at the age of 69 years. Beloved husband of 44 years to Elaine Bowman. Much loved father of Ian (Terri Hoy), Paul (Melanie McCann) and Mark (Melissa Canniff). Special Grandpa to Hannah, Beth, Nolan, Luke and Wyatt. Jack was the eldest son of Margaret Elliott of Campbell’s Bay, PQ and the late Lawrence Lang. He is also survived by siblings Elwyn (Heather Barr, late Lynn Elliott ), Joan (David Rusenstrom), Joyce (Donnie Trafford) and Carol (Norman Beck). Jack has left a hole in the hearts of his numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, Elaine’s family and his large circle of friends and neighbours.

Jack retired as an employee of Smurfit Stone after a dedicated 36 year career. He served the Township of Clarendon for 24 years, first as Counselor and then as the longest serving Mayor (16 years) in the Township’s history. He was the proud recipient of the Certificate of Collaboration from the Sûreté du Québec recognizing his co-operation to further advance the mission of the SQ and his engagement to the community. Jack was a proud and valued member of the congregation of Shawville United Church. He enjoyed serving his community and held various roles with the Shawville Clarendon Fire Department, Village Cemetery Committee and was a founding member of the Shawville Kinsmen Club. He enjoyed his 30+ years spent on the Board of Directors of the Pontiac Agricultural Society (Shawville Fair), first as Steer Show Director followed by Concession Director. He was a member of the Pontiac Community Hospital Foundation and Villa James Shaw Foundation. He was an active volunteer with the Shawville Minor Hockey Association when the boys were young and involved (with his renowned “c’mon ref” support for the Pontiacs’ hockey clubs for decades). Jack also had a special way with people, which suited his recent role working at Hayes Funeral Home.

A heartfelt thanks for the wonderful and compassionate care Jack received during his battle with cancer from the CLSC, Dr. Wootton, Dr. Pinelo and the staff and volunteers of the Palliative Care Unit of Shawville Hospital.
